Reviews

"We stayed here in August 2004 and loved it so much we returned in September 2006. We would absolutely stay there next time we visit Newport. The proprietors, Gary and Pat are extremely knowledgable of the area and helpful with tips and making reservations. They are very warm and welcoming. The house is conveniently located just a short walk from town so you don't have to worry about the very limited parking yet it is far enough away from the town that it is very quiet and peaceful at night. There is off street parking available on property. We drive there from New York, park at the B&B and basically do not get in the car again until we are ready to leave. If you (sic) trouble walking, you will probably need to use your car; however, you don't have to worry about finding a spot for the night because it is included with your room (parking is VERY tight in Newport). If you are looking for a small, welcoming, personal type of Bed and Breakfast, Thames Street Guest House cannot be beat. Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend?  Absolutely!"

I recommend this hotel for:  A romantic getaway, Girlfriend getaway, Older travelers, Pet owners, Families with young children, Families with teenagers, Tourists~

Thames Street Guest House
15 Thames St.
Newport, RI 02840
The Thames Street Guest House is an Italianate Victorian home built in 1869 and designed by renowned architect George Champlin Mason.  We are located steps from Newport’s downtown and waterfront/harbor areas and just a block away from the Newport County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which provides extensive information on area attractions, restaurants and shopping as well as a hub for bus, trolley & taxi transportation.  Newport’s famous scenic Ocean Drive, Bellevue Avenue with its famed historic mansions, and several museums, art galleries and our beautiful beaches are less than a 10 minute drive.

Our Victorian style rooms offer king-size beds, private modern bathrooms, air conditioning and cable TV. Off street parking is also included, and we have a large yard with patio area available.  Continental breakfast is set out buffet style from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for your convenience.  Coffee, tea, juice, hot and cold cereals and a variety of fresh fruit are available and the smell of our freshly baked muffins will entice you to our bright, cheery kitchen.  You can dine in the adjacent dining room or outdoors in the patio or porch areas.

We also have a separate one-bedroom apartment with a queen size bed, full kitchen and bath, large living room with queen size sofa bed, and a private entrance which is available on a monthly or seasonal basis.

We have been happy to welcome visitors from all over the world over the past 15+ years and are proud to have many guests returning to stay with us whenever they are in Newport.   We are pleased to be considered family-friendly and welcome guests with children.  Please consider staying with us and becoming a part of our Thames Street Guest House family.
